What is Calvinism vs. Arminianism?
Calvinism asserts that God chooses who will be saved by His sovereign election, and man is born dead in sin and unable to repent. When Jesus died on the cross, he only covered the sins of those who have been elected, and grace is only extended to the elect and cannot be resisted. Salvation cannot be lost because the election was already predestined by God himself. Arminians assert that man is sinful and has the free will to resist or accept God’s grace. God chooses who will be saved based on his foreknowledge of who will choose Him. Jesus’ sacrifice covered the sins of everyone, and it is extended to all people; thus, saving grace can be resisted or accepted because of our free will.
