Is salvation by faith alone, or faith plus works?
Salvation is a free gift of Jesus that we can accept by having faith in His work on the cross (Eph 2:8-9). It is obtained by repentance (asking God to be forgiven) and is authenticated by a person living a life of increasing holiness that glorifies God. A person who continues in a lifestyle of sin is not saved (I John 3:9). Faith without a life change toward righteousness (without works) is dead (James 2:26). Thus we are saved by grace through faith, and the result of salvation (as well as evidence of it) is good work.
